two friends exploring other options
They layed with their backs stretched out comfortably upon the large bed, staring thru the skylight at the stars that shown across the canopy of the dark. She was to his left, he was to her right. It felt like they had been here before. The thoughts of their cluttered lives trailed around their minds, desperately searching for a way out. Silence enveloped them, slowly letting the roads within them become clear, it was nap time for the village.
"I know there was something you wanted to say to me earlier but didn't." his voice was soft in the air, sounding comforting to her. She let her answer come without thought,
"Yeah... I suppose."
"Are you going to tell me now?"
Staring at the stars she decided now would be a good time. She let the words come together in her mind,"I was thinking about our relationship. How long we have been friends. I was thinking of long ago, the way we began." She paused, waiting to feel the shift of energy between them.. there wasn't one. He was still right with her, "Do you know how I felt about you when we first met?" she asked.
She let her head turn to the right, finding him grinning at her, she returned the smile. Looking back at the stars, "I wanted you." she paused, again waiting for the energy shift, this time she could feel it, but instead of him pulling away like she thought he would, his warmth stretched out into the room, an amber color. "Why didn't you tell me?" he asked, surprising her with his direct response.
"You were with another girl... you in fact had quite an unsettling obsession with her. And I was shy then." He laughed his large full laugh, "You.. shy?"
"You can't remember back that far huh?"
The silence settled over them again and she felt his warmth grow. She was aware suddenly of her own hot energy filling her up and overflowing into the room.
"So why are you telling me this now?" he asked.
She unearthed a small sigh, "Because we are at a crossroads now. What with the marriage scare and all. This is the first time that we have both been single. I think we owe it to ourselves to see if something exists we may have overlooked."
"What do you suggest?" he asked, again, shocking her with his cut to the jugular. He was more the type to dance around these sorts of things. She rolled over onto her right side, propped her head up with her right hand and gazed at him. He looked back, calmly. "I think that you should kiss me and see if we like it." she said quietly, almost in a whisper. Searching her face he said, "What if we lose something with this experiment?"
"What could we lose?"
"The comfort of our friendship."
"I'll quote a good friend of mine, 'Never get too comfortable.' " she bit her lower lip and inhaled deeply, letting him read the decision in her eyes with her slow exhale,"Kiss me."
The fingers of his right hand found her left cheek, caressing and taking it as his own. She could feel the energy of his touch within her. Pulling her down to him gently, he found her lips easily and kissed her. With their lips pressed softly together an unexpected hunger gripped them. Desire carefully controlled for too many years revealed itself. Passion, hot and demanding exploded between them and they devoured one another, reaching, needing, touching, they kissed hot and fast. A knowing gripped them. There was a closeness that couldn't be expressed. His hand snaked up into her hair, becoming tangled and giving it a rough tug, instinctively knowing it was what she wanted. Her body responded in turn and a small moan escaped her mouth, his mouth still hungrily open upon hers. The kiss became deeper, their need growing. His hands helped her move in an instant on top of him, their bodies needing to be as close as possible. His hands trailed up her back and caressed every place they could find. How could they have known it would be like this?

"You don't know me like this." she said softly with her head buried in his neck, the heat growing between them.
"You don't know me like this either." He responded in a deep passionate way as he pulled her head back around and kissed her, their bodies instinctively knowing one another. Energy pushing out from their core and stretching forever onward. 'It has never felt like this before', she thought vaguely, as he pulled her down onto the soft bed with him, 'this is how it's suppose to be'. Their bodies found one another and time stood still. There was nothing but the two of them, reaching and pulling, pushing and needing.. their breath and skin hot. How could they have waited so long?
