A POW escapes: Entry for The Amazing 55 word short story contest
ESCAPE

Their pursuit is relentless but I have no choice.  The guards have begun shooting us for sport.  Damn this war.

I am bleeding, tired, hungry and, for the moment, free.

'How can I go on?' I ask myself.

Closing my eyes, I see my wife and young daughter. 

I struggle up and start running again.
