The orb was pulsating. No one knew why, or for how long. Except One.
Except One

The small orb slowly pulsed in the middle of the small, dim room. Red to black to red to black, over and over again. The orb just rested there, in the middle of the room and pulsed those two colors, over and over again. No one knew how long it had been there or how long it will be. Except one.
All of a sudden, there was a "clank" noise that resonated around the room. The noise came from a trap door that was slowly opened. Nothing happened for a few minutes, except for the continual pulsating of the orb. Suddenly, a small furred entity slowly popped his head through the trap door. When it was halfway through the trap door, the orb stopped. The entity noticed it and froze. Then it changed from red to black to blue to black, and continued on with its new color. After a few minutes, the entity slowly went back through his door, all the while keeping his eyes on the orb, expecting it to jump at him, or explode. There was another loud "clank" as the trapdoor closed. Nothing else happened. The orb continued pulsating with its new color, blue to black to blue to black, over and over again.
Now there came a loud "clip" sound, as a side door opened into the room. Instead of a furred creature, one featuring wings and feathers entered the room. Upon seeing the orb, it too froze. It seemed to sense the nature of the orb, despite never having seen it before. Braver than the furred entity, it slowly and cautiously walked toward the orb, never taking its eye off of the pulsating globe. As it walked, it expected the orb to do something, anything, but only the gentle pulsing of colors continued. Blue to black to blue to black, over and over again.
When the orb was in reach of the entity, it slowly reached for the orb, ready to pick it up. Before it could, there was another loud "clank" sound as the trap door opened. Out popped the furred entity. Their eyes met. Neither moved, nor dared to move, afraid of what the other would do and what the orb would do. They both stared at each other, not gazing at the orb, the other door, nothing else, for what seemed like an eternity. All the while, the orb pulsating blue to black to blue to black, over and over again.
All of a sudden, the winged entity dared a glance at the door from whence he had come, and so did the furred entity, following the winged entity's eyes.
With a quick dash, the winged entity rushed to his door, slamming it shut as it entered. The furred entity didn't move, except to do the same with his trap door after the other door was closed. And then nothing happened, except for the pulsing of the orb, blue to black to blue to black, over and over again. Nothing else happened for another couple of minutes.
With a loud "clip", and a loud "clank", both of the doors slowly opened. Both entities dared a look at each others doors. Their gazes met, and the doors slammed shut once again. With more noise, the doors were opened once again, but this time the two stayed in their places, neither taking its gaze off of the other. While this was going on, it happened.
The orb stopped. It just stopped. No more red, or blue, or any other color. The two slowly turned their heads and noticed. They both retreated back slightly, but without closing their doors.
The winged entity being the braver of the two, slowly and cautiously walked over to the now dull orb. It slowly reached out to touch the orb. The other creature let out a shrill squeak, freaking out the winged entity. It stopped and looked at the other, fear evident on its face. It continued, touching the orb, expecting it to be hot, or to explode, but nothing happened. Feeling a little less scared, it slid the orb, testing its weight. It slid with ease. With evermore courage, the winged entity slowly lifted the orb. It was not heavy, or even hard to lift due to the shape. Holding the orb, it turned to the other creature. There was a mischievous smile on its face. Out of nowhere, came a huge mallet that flattened the winged entity in one stroke. The other creature only smiled at the remains of the other being, and the still whole orb. Only the orb was now pulsating again. Instead of its other colors, it went from green to black to green to black, over and over again. The furred entity scooped the remains of the other being into its trap door, slowly and quietly closing the open door at the side of the room. Still bearing a smile, it slowly scooted the orb back into the exact middle of the floor, where it had been. Slowly, the creature went back into its hole, waiting for another entity, or victim in its mind.
And the only thing left in the room was the orb, pulsing green to black to green to black, over and over again. No one knew what had happened or if it would happen again. Except one.
