The world returned gradually into focus, eyes fluttering open slowly. Above, several fluffy clouds wandered aimlessly across an exotic blue canvas. For obscure reasons he was lying down, uniform caked in mud. Deafening crackling noises could be heard intermittently between head throbs. Desperately pushing against soggy ground, his rigid body rolled over, revealing a catastrophic scene scattered amongst unknown wilderness. Roughly two dozen other men were near; each pitifully moaning rescue calls which nobody heard. Burning debris surrounded their group, smoke collected around them making breathing nigh on impossible. He coughed violently, vision spinning, and waited impatiently for death’s embrace.
