Girl realizes she likes a long time friend but doesn't have a chance with him.
"He's so cute. I wish he'd go out with me again." My best friend Skyler said to me as she sat down next to me.

This was the billionth time she'd told me this today. And quite frankly I was getting sick of it.

"See him over there with Hayden. That's sickening," Skyler said as TJ gave Hayden a kiss before he got up.
"Yeah, sure, sickening," I said half listening. TJ walked over to me.
"You ready?" he asked as I stood up.
"Yep," I said leaving Skyler alone.
"Good luck," Skyler called behind us.
"Thanks," TJ and I said as we entered the locker room.

"What does this make. The seventh game in a row Hayden has been to," I said as we sat down in the locker room.
"Yeah," TJ said.
"You really like her don't ya?" I asked after seeing the looking in his eyes.
"She's amazing. She's smart, athletic, and funny," he said.
"Don't be thinkin' about marriage yet. You're only fourteen," I said laughing.

Just then our coach walked in. Everyone was quiet as the coach gave his before-game pep talk.

I didn't really listen. All I did was sat there thinking about TJ. I had to admit it, he was cute and I had a crush on him. But I knew he didn't like me like that, we were too good of friends. I was the girl who was friends with all the guys but not a single one liked me as a girlfriend. I have been friends with TJ for two years and never, until now had I ever thought of him like that.

I was the reason he had Hayden as a girlfriend. Last year before we moved to a new school I had met some girls who were going to the same school with us. TJ had caught one of the girls' eyes and she asked me to hook her and TJ up. I did and that girl happened to be Hayden.

I thought Hayden was nice but my best friend Skyler did not. The only reason she didn't like Hayden was because TJ was her ex-boyfriend and never would she let me forget it. Sometimes it made me angry to hear Skyler gripe about Hayden or any of TJ's other girlfriends.

"Hey Marissa. Come on," TJ said. I snapped back into reality. I hadn't heard the coach tell everyone to come on.
"Sorry," I mumbled as I joined the rest of the team.

We ran out of the locker room to the court where everyone was cheering. I looked over at TJ. When he noticed I was looking at him he smiled. I smiled back and at that moment I realized something. We may be best friends for a long, long time but we would never be more than that. Friends, and that was fine.

I looked up at Skyler who was in the stands flirting with some boy. I rolled my eyes and caught a glimpse of Hayden. She was looking at TJ with loving eyes. I looked at TJ again. He blew a kiss to Hayden. I smiled, they were the perfect couple and hopefully no one would get in the way of that. Not me, not another girl, and especially not Skyler.
