A poem about how waiting for something to happen gets you nowhere.
A Night Together

Blessed with a yes
So gracious to hear
An evening with you
Is so frighteningly near

I scramble around
To cook, to prepare
Clothes, nails, and makeup
Perfume in my hair

So scattered my heartbeats
When I hear the bell
Your face so familiar
Eyes known so well

I’m nervous and giddy
My voice rises high
I take a seat quickly
You sit beside

Watching a movie
You’re close, I could touch
Electric, such tension
We’re not watching much

Neither of us
Know quite what to do
We both hold the knowledge
I’m in love with you

So why play this mind game?
Why not move on?
Before we can stop it,
Good-byes, then you’re gone

So now I’ll sit thinking
About our short time
And pretend that you told me
You’ll always be mine
