One story leads to another in this legendary fable.
The sun still shone brightly as the clouds moved closer. Emily started closing shutters and doors and Steven ran out quickly to see if he could find some firewood before the rain came and made conditions difficult. When he was satisfied that he had enough wood he walked briskly back to the little house.

With everything in place and a nice fire going to keep them both warm, they each sat in front of the window and waited for the storm. Holding hands, staring out from the window, the two eager faces peered out.

Big drops of water started landing, they could see them bounce off the ground in front of their own eyes. Ants were busily trying to get out of the rain and once, a rain drop, as big as they'd seen for a long while, made the ants break their line, but they were able to reform, those sturdy ants, and redouble their efforts; and get out of the storm. Steven and Emily looked to each other in sheer amazement. What a stunning turn of events.

The storm drew itself now as close to erupting as possible, right on top of the little house on the edge of the forest. Loud cracks of thunder could be heard and Emily squeezed Steven's hand tighter when she noticed that he was scared stiff. He made a noise and turned around to look at the patterns on Emily's pretty dress. Lots of blue star flowers. A louder crack of thunder, and he pressed his worried face into her shoulders. Emily knew he was only scared for her, that's what he said after every storm had passed.

Together they sat in front of that window and watched every raindrop, every lightning strike and every single thing that happened as that storm raged outside. All night that storm persisted. Emily and Steven wondered whether it had decided to make its home above theirs. In time though, as quickly as it had arrived, it began to pass. One final loud crack was accompanied by a brilliant slip of lightning , scaring them both out of their wits. It took a chunk out of the tree that stood over the right side of their home which made a lot of noise as it landed on the patio.

Then it was all over. They could hear the birds once again. The sun was out. The air was so fresh. A new day was upon them. But what was that noise. Emily turned to Steven and Steven in turn pointed, as if to say that the noise they both heard came from outside, near the front door, just there.
