If I could hold a kookaburra . . .
KOOKABURRA CATKINS

Kookaburras perch like
aments on the purple
gum branches
like the lyrics to my
childhood song about this
merry, merry king of the bush
and I want to tenderly crush him
like a catkin in my hand
--soft as--
put his feathered head
to my cheek
and rub.
