Thinking about religion.
The Roads to God
Josh Fink

I do not know Truth, I only have what I believe. I wish to make it clear now that I do not seek to belittle anyone’s religion or belief system, whatever it may be.

I believe that there is a superior Being or collective of Beings who created everything. For this writing, I will refer to that Being or collective as God. It is obvious by the way things work that there is intelligent design at work. The Earth is the exact distance from the Sun that it must be in order to sustain life. Any further in either direction would make life impossible. The way elements form compounds and life and matter… it is simply impossible that this is random.

I believe God to be inherently good. The way things work show this. Animals inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Plants inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. Plants require water. Water falls from the sky as precipitation. The needs of life are found on our planet, without our help. The fact that we are alive is cause enough for celebration and gratitude.

I do not believe that God has a religion. Religions are signposts leading to God, not God Himself. They are paths to Truth, and following them will lead you to Truth. However, there are many roads to God. If you stick to one of them, you’ll find him. I also would like to think that if you look at all of them and see what direction they’re heading, you can strike your own path towards Truth. What I see that is common among all religions is Love, Service, and Worship.

I believe that heaven and hell are real. I believe that honestly trying to Love, Serve, and Worship is enough to enter heaven. God will not condemn someone who tries to Worship Him the way they were taught. Similarly, an atheist or agnostic who has goodwill towards his fellow man and lives their lives the best they can will enter heaven. Hell is reserved only for the wicked; those who wish evil towards their fellow man and God.

If God is inherently good, he must also be loving and forgiving. He will forgive those who try and fail. It is the trying that matters.
