Death is everywhere isn't it? Not sure if I like the title. I'm not usually this dark.
Oddly enough, despite gaps that seem more erased than forgotten
I remember the first to begin it all
Time has faded it to a mere sketch but it still remains
The day was not dark nor dreary,
As the mind is tricked into believing
Actually, it seemed like any other day
Only no one worked and everyone hugged
Wreaths and vases littered the room with odd looking flowers

Unknown people whispering, shaking their heads
Tearful and solemn they made their rounds until it was time
One last look, perhaps a touch before there are no more
Seats quickly fill and somehow there is just enough
The youth are sandwiched between nameless faces and hushed
While someone speaks words not remembered and doubtfully heard
Cars pull out and one by one they are regarded with respect until the last destination
Again, the voice drones on its unheard speech and the ground embraces yet another

That was the first but unfortunately not the last
On that day innocence was oblivious to understanding mortalities kiss
Dry eyes were forced to wet, lest they be found unloving
Since, so many more days have come and many more still to follow
The kiss is now well understood and it is never ending until it is your own
No longer does the eyes fight back the wet, they are unmistakably loving
These days are like no other
And they are dark and dreary
