A poem inspired by my Grand Father, and his fight against skin cancer.
HEAT ……

Yet again you’ve snuck up on me. Creeping from behind, like a wild animal stalking its prey.

I knew you would return.
I knew I could not avoid this day.

In Winter I wished for you, but to no avail.
Instead, I was bombarded by your brothers, Rain, Wind and Hail.

Now you’re here I curse you, like a man would if he had hit his hand with a hammer.
You are like a shot of alcohol, some would say, a Tequila Slammer!.

I know time will pass as it always does, and soon you’ll be gone.
Once more, I’ll yet again yearn for you, like a lost love.

Until then these minutes seem like hours and these hours like days.

“ HEAT “ – you can kill a man, but unlike a bullet, you have no swift and deadly blow. Just an constant attack, with your war of attrition, burning a mark on my back.

In the Desert is where you thrive. You leave no survivors. No one can escape alive. No water in sight, I wouldn’t call that a fair fight!.

I must travel now. I’ve waited long enough.
Its only a short drive in the evening,….when you’re not so Tough !.

I cover up with Cream to fight your scorching rays.
I won’t fall prey to you, as my Grandfather did, back in the so called, “ Good Old Days “.

You marked him well.
He didn’t have what we today call, SPF 30.
Still you didn’t care, you “ PLAY DIRTY “.

Even in the Winter , you left him scared and sore – skin graphs on his arms and face.

As a child I was told not to trust you, even with your bright shinny face.

“ HEAT “ – I can’t avoid you
“ HEAT “ – even in my house, you try burn me.
“ HEAT “ !!!.
