A comedic look at gift giving. An Acrostic for Robin's Monthly Acrostic Poetry Contest.
GIFT GIVING AT CHRISTMAS TIME.

Got to get rid of some of this junk,
It's just cluttering up the whole house.
For years we've collected this bric~a~brac,
The two of us ~ me and my spouse.

Gertie my neighbour can have that old vase,
I was going to toss it away.
Vernon the barber would like that framed print
In his Barber Shop, down near the bay.
Not forgetting Vern's wife, she likes a nice wine:
Got a bottle or two, dry and sweet.

All of our books we can wrap up with care
To give to the folks in our street.

Christmas gift giving should not be judged by
How much each one's present is worth.
Rather it should be the thought that counts,
It's the season for goodwill on Earth.
So, by the time we have sorted our gifts
Tightly wrapped with nice paper and bows,
Much of our money is saved by our thrift
And ~
See how our tidy house glows!

This is one way to get rid of the stuff
In your closets, and tucked in your drawers.
My present to you ~ No! I'm not going to tell,
Except that it used to be YOURS!
