The Key Part IV

“Yes Mother, he is still my husband and I guess I must.” she said as her trembling hand reached for the phone. As her mother gave Jessica the phone her mother motioned for her father to go into the kitchen to give her privacy. They both walked slowly into the kitchen.

Jessica took in a deep breath and started to listen to the receiver.

“Hello! Hello! Are you there Jessica? Please answer! Jessica please.” came the frantic voice over the phone.

“Hello. Morgan? I’m here. Mother and Daddy are here in the kitchen. I feel so hurt. What is going on?” she responded as she fought back some tears that were filling her eyes.

“Oh Jessica. You must believe me. I really did not shoot anyone. I want to get out of here. “

Jessica sat on the couch as her mind began to feel a little achy. “Morgan what is going on?”

“Jessica, come to the police station on Derringer Street. I guess then you will have to bring some money for bail. I know this is a big mess now but I will get everything explained. Please dear.” was the last thing she heard from Morgan because someone was telling him that his five minutes were over.”

Jessica hung up the phone and walked back to the kitchen. At the counter, Jessica’s mother was pouring some water for herself and her father. Her father had his wallet out and was going through some business cards. They both turned around when Jessica entered the kitchen.

“What did he say honey? Is he coming home? What are you going to do?” asked her mother with wide open eyes.

“Now Marilyn, she’ll tell us. But first I want to let you know that if you need to spend the night with us then the door’s open for you. I’ll not have you with that man if he is playing around. That’s just not right.” said her father as he walked towards her and looked her in the eyes.

“But Daddy, don’t you think I need to talk to him first?

“Jessica, the whole city saw one thing on the news. They saw your husband with his arms around another lady. I think that only a blind person would not be able to figure what is going on .” Gregory put his strong hand on her shoulder.

Jessica’s mother started to open her mouth to give her opinion but instead looked to see where the cat food was to put into Stormy’s bowl. Stormy came running into the kitchen when she heard the dry cat food package being opened.

The phone rang again and Jessica raced back into the living room to get the call. As she picked up the receiver, there was a crash and loud thud in the kitchen. She heard her mother scream. She dropped the receiver and raced back into the kitchen. She had to push on the swinging door because she felt something blocking it.

As she opened the door, she saw her father writhing on the floor. Her mother was bending over her father trying to keep his head from hitting the floor. Out of his mouth was coming a lot of spit and a little blood.
He turned and twisted for about a minute and a half and then suddenly stopped. His eyes began to glaze.

“Oh my God.” shouted Jessica. “Mother what is going on?”

“Jessica I have never seen this before. Just little times when he pauses and maybe had a little twitch but nothing like this. What should I do?” she cradled his head and big tears started rolling down her cheeks.

“Mom get my cell phone from my purse. Then go next door to Mrs. Seller’s house. She is a nurse and should be home now. Tell her that I have an emergency.” said Jessica as she tried to open her father’s mouth to make sure that there was nothing he would choke on.

Jessica’s mother got her purse from the living room and then ran out of the house to the next door. Jessica looked at her father as his eyes were rolling back in his head. She got up to get a big towel under his head and a smaller one to clean his face as her mother came running back.

Jessica opened her cell phone and saw the message that the battery was dead and needed recharging. She threw the phone into the garbage and ran into the living room to make the call.

“9-1-1 operator. What is your emergency?” came a monotone voice on the other end.

“I have a man who has collapsed in my house. He is my father. Please send an ambulance now. “ Jessica started choking. “Please hurry.”

“What is your address?”

“It is 101313 Painter’s Way on the end of the street. It is a two story, brick house, but please, he doesn’t look good. His color is white now. “ She left the phone on the couch and returned to the kitchen to check on her father.

Jessica’s mother came in breathing hard. “Jessica, Beverly is at a meeting. Here is Bernard. He says he’ll help. “

Mr. Seller’s came around the counter also breathing a little fast and leaned over to look at Jessica’s father.

“I have my car. I can take him anywhere you need to go.” said Mr. Sellers.

“I’ve just called 9-1-1. Oh I put down the phone, Mother please go and see if the operator is still on it and answer any questions she might ask.” Her mother nodded and went quickly into the living room.

Has Jessica forgotten about Morgan? Is her father going to live? Today is Friday the 13th so it might get worse. Tune in for more later.
