SS101 Lesson #4
The protagonist against himself is my story....

My protagonist is a young doctor. His patient, in his mid-twenties, looks to him for answers. He is experiencing very minimal symptoms that cause the doctor to deem him healthy without so much as a blood test. This doctor, although young, has a level of confidence that clouded his judgement. Seeing a young man in great shape, he put faith in what he saw and his confidence as a doctor and felt he was sure he was correct that his patient was well. So sure he was in his own skills, he did not order tests for his patient. Soon the patient returns now extremly ill and the doctor realizes he has missed a grave diagnosis and had he not relied on himself and ordered the tests his patient may have been able to survie.

Drawn in by his mistake, and having to watch his young patient die he falls into a deep depression. He maintains a vigile by the young man's bedside. When the family are visiting he fears the truth will come out that he is the cause of their son dying. The guilt soon follows the man into his private life and he becomes consumed by it. The day to day stress of his mistake lying in front of him eats away at him. The patient is in and out of consiousness and he fears each time he awakens that the finger will be pointed at him.

As time goes on he begans to pray that the truth comes out. He can no longer live with the guilt of what he has done. He knows in his heart that after this young man's death someone will demand answers and his sin will be made known. He only prays that he handles his emotional and professional death as dignifed as his young patient handled his.
