My life in a nutshell; my shrink disagrees.
Forever and ever, to the Lord I made claim,
But it was a very, very long time ago;
Forever and ever, but it's all really the same,
And I leave empty-handed, departing head low.

Blessed once with brilliance, somebody once said;
Though it's been a long time, my somebody's dead.
I suppose I've been scratched, my lacquer peeled thin,
Suppose I ought to be polished, made shiny again,

Smooth sails never filled over placid waters,
And I'd rather see icebergs than nothing at all,
I suppose there have been plenty less scatter-brained daughters,
But I'm feeling much better, up over the wall.
