I wrote this with my friend Rachael, passing it back and forth, each writing a sentence
Wings
The library is a pretty good place to be in the afternoon; you can be sure that you'll find something to do if you are bored.
But it also serves as a place to find answers.
Answers to the secrets of the city.
Answers to the unknown, and the known.
They can be found in old newspapers, or even on slips of paper that you sometimes find when people drop them.
These answers were being sought by two very different girls.
For two very different reasons.
Yet, unbeknownst to themselves, they had the same goal.
To find a home.
Home meant different things to each.
To one, it meant finding her parents, or at least someone to care for her.
to the other, it was something lost.
Either way, what they both were looking for was somewhere within the city, and they both knew that; the trouble was finding somewhere to start.
Exactly three days ago, Liz had seen her sister disappear into the New York streets.
After looking for her desperately for three days, Liz had all but given up hope.
She could still see her sister falling, falling.
Falling away from her in these terrifying dreams.
For Liz and her sister Jenna could indeed fly.
Far below them was the girl who needed wings; and her name was Serena.
Serena didn't know it yet, but she was the only way Liz could ever see her sister again.
That was because Serena was one of the only extreme observers in the library, and she picked up a lot of information on everything, and everyone.
Many people go through life with their heads down, seeing nothing of what goes on around them.
Others, like Serena, keep a watchful eye on everything around them.
This is one of the most powerful skills in the world, and one of the most underestimated.
