THE CAVE

        Heather and the young girl were halfway up the cliff face. The aunt and her niece had planned this climb today in hopes of getting away from their recent loss for a while of the little one’s mother Julie. Julie had been Heather's twin sister. She was killed suddenly in a tragic auto accident some months before.

        The little girl was currently exploring the large ledge they were resting on. Calling to her aunt, Cristina showed Heather a wide crevice hidden behind some thick brush. It appeared to be large enough for both of them to crawl into. Entering the widening passage they continued, uncovering several deep and until now unknown and hidden passages. They crawled forward into the largest of these on hands and knees for a long time. With their helmet lights on they continued deeper and deeper into the mountain.

        When they finally were able to stand they found themselves in a large stalactite filled cavern. At the far end was what appeared to be a smoothed walled  rock tube leading now down into the mountain's depths. They followed this winding pathway for a very long time when it suddenly leveled out far below the mountain's base, deep  within the bowels of the Earth.

        Suddenly they emerged into another smaller lighted subterranean cavern.They soon found themselves surrounded by fur covered bipeds slightly shorter than Cristina's three foot four inch height. These creatures had over-sized white squared teeth, large round noses, big oval eyes, and leather like three fingered hands. Cristina thought they looked like living stuffed animals.

        All throughout the rock wall were veins of phosphorus material glowing green, yellow, and white. Suddenly the furry creatures moved forward surrounding Christina.
She was not afraid as they began pressing their little bodies towards and patting her. Gently shaking her, calling and chanting her name over and over. She felt the warmth of love surround her.{c:}

        “Cristina. Cristina. Cristina.” her aunt Heather said smiling warmly, sitting on the bed gently shaking the little girl awake. “Wake up Honey; it’s time to get up. We have a big day of climbing and exploring ahead of us.”
