Every day is surprising.
Typical Day
By Ephibel
It was a typical Monday in my office. I was busy reading memoranda and letters, receiving reports for my consolidation, answering phone calls while entertaining clienteles inquiring on the services that our agency is implementing. But before my typical Monday at work was over, our Director called me up informing that I have to prepare the data she needed and that I am going to assist her on the workshop she will be attending at the Central Office.
The said workshop would be scheduled on Wednesday. Since our office is eight hours travel by land going to the venue, she told me that we have to leave the office Tuesday after lunch in order to arrive at the venue at dinner time. It means working until midnight with barely time to sleep or none at all. It was not a typical Monday indeed! I worked until four in the morning and slept. I had to complaint. This is really torture for me.
As expected, Tuesday could not be another typical day for me; I was fetched by our driver at eight in the morning. She wanted to check my output before we leave for the workshop. My brain was malfunctioning. I could not think straight. I was sleepy. Thus, she decided to have a brainstorming at the dormitory we were going to stay during the workshop. I slept most of the time on our travel.
During the day of the workshop, we arrived at the venue one hour earlier. Since there still time, she requested me to look for a person she wanted to talk to. She said that the office of that person was located at the end room of the same floor where the conference room we were in. So I went inside that particular office with idea in mind to ask somebody if the person I was looking is around. But before I said a word, I saw a familiar face. Then, realized I knew him. I was astonished! Frozen. I do not know how I was able to leave that office. I forgot the person I was looking. Instead I looked for a restroom and stayed there, thinking. The guy I saw was the father of my daughter, the one who betrayed and neglected me during the worst time of my life. Whatever his reasons for that manner still, he was the major cause of me being a single mom and bearing all the responsibilities.
I am quite confused that time. I was nervous; anxious, and most of all; I was annoyed by his presence. I was upset and uneasy, too. Well, he was still good-looking after all this time. I had to admit I was not prepared. Only if I knew he was there, I would have looked more attractive, I used to. Why? Life’s unfair!
He was not working at that office; how come he was there? I have to find out.
I prayed so hard and asked the Lord not to let him see me. I promised myself that from now on I would never be complaining for so many workloads, that I am much willing to work till midnight and even so late, please answer my prayers. I am not yet ready to face him again for obvious reasons.
Suddenly, my mobile phone rang. My boss was calling. She’s wondering what happened to me? I told her I was looking for Ms. Borromeo and she’s not in her office. “Who?” She asked. “Who was that Ms. Borromeo? I told you to look for Ms. Bernardo”. I was so sorry to her for the misnomer. She told me not to look for Ms. Bernardo anymore I have to go back to the conference room because the workshop is about to start. I was really determined to do what I promised and focused my mind in the workshop hoping that my prayers will be granted.
The workshop adjourned at exactly seven thirty in the evening, nothing worst was happened. After dinner we went home. This was not my typical Wednesday but then my prayer was granted. I learned that the “good-looking man” was assigned at that office for almost a quarter now. But, if he will stay at that office for good, I have to pray harder. So help me.
