A bit of heaven on Gentilly Ridge.
If you find yourself up on Gentilly Ridge,
when that Louisiana sun starts sinking low,
I hope you are holding your lover tight
and thinking about a beautiful past.

When that Louisiana sun starts sinking low,
she bathes everything in a brilliant red glow,
paints uptown skyscrapers, ninth ward,
and shotgun shacks with the same magic.

I hope you are holding your lover tight,
as the late summer evening turns to night.
The cicada bugs sing and happy birds call.
Even the traffic's hum and roar adds to it all.

And thinking about a beautiful past;
I hope you do not dwell on sadness since.
For though our great city was almost drown,
all is beautiful when the sun is going down.
