How it's difficult to buy cards for your spouse when you realize you're no longer in love.
No Card For This

In the beginning it was easy
Something to look forward to to make your spouse feel special
The many occasions to celebrate the love you feel for her
How she makes you smile every time you see her
How her kisses makes you melt inside
How everything she does makes you glad that you share it with her

In the beginning it was a pleasure to look at the greeting card rack and it was easy to find the card that describes how you feel inside on the written card
The funny ones and the romantic ones
The cards with the flower pattern
The cards with hearts
The cards with a couple holding hands
The straight to the point cards
The elaborate cards that have two pages worth of words of love, romance and how you are soul mates
The cards that say how your love grows stronger every year and how you will still be together when you are 80

Every birthday, Valentines Day and Anniversary you look forward to buying that perfect card for your perfect, lovely wife and watching her open and read it and she thanks you and gives you a hug and kiss and you feel great

Unfortunately for some as time goes by things happen and when you look and read the cards you have a feeling of emptiness and remember in the beginning all of these words were true but now there’s doubt
You realize you don’t smile every time you see her
You realize the kisses don’t melt you inside
You realize maybe you would rather be somewhere else with someone else
You realize the love isn’t nearly as strong as before

So there you are picking up card after card looking at the pretty pictures and reading the romantic words and you put card after card back in it’s slot on the rack

You see other people looking and reading the cards and wonder if their love is strong or if there’s doubt as well

But for years the cards have been bought and so you continue as you just grab one knowing the words were once true but now the feelings are not

It’s a habit and the right thing to do as you pay for it

There are no birthday, Valentines Day or Anniversary cards describing how you have fallen out of love

Maybe I should start writing them
