A Trijan Refrain style poem that tells about a daughter's feeling for her dad.
His Loving Smile

He always had a loving smile
His hands were soft yet strong.
He taught me how to swim freestyle
and sing a happy song.
He gave his heart in work or play
To be the best in every day.
He gave his heart.
He gave his heart.
The dad I loved in my own way.

He always had a loving smile.
No man could show more pride
When we walked down the church’s aisle
And I would be the bride.
He cried that day when I wed John
In a bridal gown of chiffon.
He cried that day.
He cried that day.
His ugly duckling, now a swan.

He always had a loving smile
As memories did fade.
Each day he seemed more infantile
And we were his nursemaid.
He just sat still and made no sound
and at his death, his peace he found.
He just sat still.
He just sat still.
The loving dad who was profound.

This is a Trijan Refrain form that I first saw used by Hunter’s Moon in the poem: Behind the Door. He explains the form.
