Trials and tribulations of the African at the hands of their rich leaders.
Cup of Sahara

Cup of sahara

Sits like a goddess of the desert

The object of everyone’s fancy

And all around it lies the crumbs

Upon which they have feasted

A light wind cuts through the heat

Carrying with it the simple yet oh

So sweet aroma of the contents of the cup

Once again awakening the dying hope

That there will be a piece for everyone this time

Weary yet wary they move forward

So near yet so far the cup seems

Gathering their last ounce of strength

Towards a place that promises

A celebration of freedoms, liberties and democracy

The alarm is triggered

And in the shadows

The sleeping eye awakens

Lazily but knowingly it sweeps across the terrain

Casting a shadow in its awake

From a distance

Screams and police sirens fill the air

And just like cockroaches

They scamper back into their hiding places

Before they are squashed into oblivion

In the shadows

A smile spreads across the sleepy face

The war has been won by the mighty

A long hand is extended

To claim the cup as thy own once again.
