My 27th birthday
08/30/1982  I was born. 08/30/2009 I turned 27 years of age. The number one thought in my head, was about when I was five years of age, I looked at my then 30 year old father and thought of him as an old man. Funny now that I’m at 27 I find he wasn’t so old at 30. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry you will. The day started out like normal, a good breakfast, making love to my wife, and then off to work. I didn’t even know today was my birthday.

At work things went smooth till I had one client (an older friend who brought her kid in.) Ask me to watch her child till she put more money in the parking meter. The child a strange one started to act funny. When I asked why I got an answer that pierced the hart. The child said that this was the way they always acted when around mature adults. Adult I was not! I was only 26 years old. This idea had worked to comfort me untill I went home that afternoon.

“Surprise….. Happy Birthday.” What? How did I forget my own Birthday? “Happy 28th Birthday!” Read the banner on the wall. (Not only did I forget my Birthday, but I lost a year in the process.)  I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to look happy, happy that every one remembered a day, that I would have been just as happy to forget.

I was close to going crazy when my luck changed and I had found there was a typo on the banner and this really was my 27th birthday. I felt a little better but still could not deny I was a year older.
