Observations of a poet on autumn and the coming winter

" Autumn Breeze "

An autumn breeze has taken me
to the place where I was born,
nestled in the rolling hills
and the narrow rows of corn.

Cradled by a cold north wind
the leaves drift gently down,
tossed aside by every car
that's headed into town.

I count the fence posts on the way
and breathe the frosty air,
autumn hues have beckoned me,
to the brilliance of their fair.

The earth will change, so will the day
and the hours it contains,
fall, it seems, has captured thee
in red and golden chains.

Another year and one more page,
and a tale almost told
for winter's eyes are cruel with rage,
the season long and cold.
