The Babylonians and us today

" Babylon Is Burning "

Nothing lasts forever friend
for time must travel on.
I fear the city's burning,
the pipe dream is all gone.

Built of cashless credit cards
the castles reached the sky,
now Babylon is burning
I wonder why-o-why.

The power of the people
and all that was the dream
are slowly being stripped away,
all part of someone's scheme.

Our freedom is a threat to them,
they want it piece by piece.
Machinery is running smooth
the greedy need our grease.

Let's hand them all the guns and then
our habeas corpus too
for the power hungry mongers
want your freedom, yes they do!

If you're dreaming of retirement
forget it my old friend
for if these powers have their way
you'll work right to the end.

So if you think I'm ranting here,
you're right, " I am ! I am ! "
Like an insect in the stickiness,
I'm stuck in slavery's jam.

And like the ancient people gone,
our freedom we'll be yearning;
for you cannot see the torch light
when Babylon is burning.
