RIDING IN THE SHADOWS

It was a long and winding road I traveled on that night.
The evening shadows all around me was a lovely sight
and yet I felt the sadness that enveloped me somehow,
knowing at the end of the road I'd say goodbye for now.

The strains of a favorite hymn played as I drove along,
I needed the comfort that came from an old country song.
I'd been down the road to a last farewell many times before
as one by one another family member stood at the door.

There never is an easy way, for time alone can not erase
the heartbreak you feel at loss, even with Amazing Grace.
You have to keep believing that someday we'll meet again
when the time for riding in the shadows comes, until then.

I feel the pull of shadows and I know I have much left to do
before I'm ready to leave it behind and bid the world adieu.
Oh, are we ever really "ready" for what lies ahead in time?
I'll trust God to lead me to the light, everything will be fine.
