The name is under construction. :)
I walked through the halls of my high school in agony. There were very few attractive guys around me. I lacked interest in most of the guys at Vance High. The majority of them walked around with their pants around their knees like a bunch of desperate inmates. Which left two other categories, the wannabes and the misfits. I would rather drown in a lake than spend time with either group.
As I cut the corner, I came insight of my best friend. The medium height, average weighted brunette approached me with a slight smile. Lucy Sims was a very pretty girl. It wasn’t surprising that many guys liked her. For me, this was a good thing; the guys were looking at Lucy, which meant they weren’t looking at me.
“Hey.” I said, as I switched directions.
“Hey, Rayne.” Lucy replied, solemnly
I ignored the depression in my friend’s voice. It wasn’t out of the ordinary, and if something were really wrong, we would discuss it in second period. We made our way around the building twice before the bell rang. At the sound of it we split paths and went our own ways. Lucy found her boyfriend and I found my desk in first period. I stared at the chalkboard lost in my thoughts when a familiar figure sat down next to me. I turned to the one person I laughed the most with. Ashley German was the one I could turn to about anything in life and the conversation would end in laughter and a lighter heart.
“So, what’s up with you and Stephen?” Ashley asked.
“.” I began.
“.” Ashley said with concern.
“Or not.” I replied dejectedly.
Ashley frowned and we turned our attention to the teacher at the front of the room. Mr. Hamlin was aimlessly trying to call the class to order. At the same time, Ashley and I giggled beneath their breaths. It was going to be another typical first period.

The day seemed to pass by with little effect on me. I was aware of the teachers, their lessons, the students around me, but I felt as though I was in another world. This world was familiar to me. This world was mine. Inside my mind where everything was the way it should be.

As soon as the bell rang for lunch, I, along with the rest of the class made our way out of the room. I met up with Ashley in the hall and we stepped into the cafeteria together. We walked trough the lunch line and quickly found our table. We usual sat alone, but today we had company. A few freshmen girls sat at the center of the table. I ignored them and their obscene stares as I looked across the table to Ashley. She was less oblivious to the underclassmen’s gaze.
“What are you doing this weekend?” I asked, trying to divert an argument.
“Nothing much. Why? Do you have any plans?” Ashley responded breaking away from the priceless faces.
“No.” I sighed with frustration.
“Bummers, maybe we could hang-out.” Ashley offered and glanced to the freshmen, which were still in some apparent trance.
I didn‘t respond. At that moment I was glaring at the girls beside us. “Do you all have some kind of problem?” I asked them, in a meaner tone than I meant.
One mumbled a no and then they all looked away. I felt kind of bad, but Ashley seemed to find it funny and then I couldn’t help myself. I started to giggle, then rolled my eyes and focused on the food in front of me. The school food wasn’t the best. Of course it wasn’t like anything of the TV shows were it grows legs and craws away. It was more or less burnt, dry, soggy, or slightly raw. However, some days were better than others and today was one of those days. We finished in peace and waited for the bell.
