Marked For Death: The Bloody Siren Chronicles

Episode 6: The Devils of the Night

Sukia and Kenta stood on opposite sides of the mysterious Diphelia, as she nonchalantly climbed down from her horse. The Captain of the Archers was clad from head to toe in light form fitting black armor with the crest of the Southern Kingdom in the chest plate. Her Mohawk seemed to loom ominously over her tall, slender body.

“Let me tell you both a secret” Diphelia said, “I’m far from just a regular flunky of King Surron. I’m actually the Head of the Oni-Ken tribe Shad’don.”

“Really?” said Sukia, “You’re working for the Southerners, yet you claim to not be a Southern flunky? I’m a smart girl, but I think I’m stumped by this one. Please elaborate.”

“I gladly will, it’s merely a business move on my end. With all the so-called demon slayers running wild around here, I simply acted in the interest of my people. We work for the army, and we get the protection of the royal family. Since my people have signed on, we’ve contributed to the Southern Kingdom’s powerful reputation.”

“Well, I’m the Champion of the Demonslayers, and I’ve never heard of you!” Kenta barked, “I’m done hearing your life story, bitch, let’s rumble!!!”

Kenta charged at Diphelia, axe raised and ready to strike when she raised her hand, palm outwards. A small black circle of dark energy formed in her palm, and fired at Kenta. The champion attempted to swing his axe at the ball, but as soon as the blade of the Axe of the Storm touched the small sphere, it began to crackle and explode. The force of the explosion sent the champion flying back. Diphelia quickly turned around and fired a barrage of dark spheres in the direction of The Bloody Siren, who had nearly managed to grab her. The close range explosion pushed both women back, but Diphelia scrambled to her feet to prepare herself for the next attack from Sukia, but Sukia simply stood there.

“No timeouts allowed, Siren!!!!” the Demon Chieftain yelled as she fired another wave of explosive spheres at the Siren.

“No timeouts needed, Demon!!!” Sukia replied, with a psychotic look on her face.

The Bloody Siren looked at the spheres and willed them to stop and explode prematurely. Sukia had entered her bloodlust mode. Sukia’s long blonde locks seemed to float in the air as if they were immune to the effects of gravity. Her normally dull crimson eyes were now glowing a brilliant shade of red. Sukia’s fangs and nails were now extended to more than double their normal size, and she had a very demented look on her face.

“You know what makes me really pissed?” The Bloody Siren said, in a voice that seemed to be two voices at once, “A person that sells out what they stand for. You say you led your people to the Southern Kingdom for safety and business, but let’s face it, you were afraid of the Southerners…afraid that you would all be slaughtered, so you sold your people into near slavery, rather than fight them back. They needed you more than you needed them, but they tricked you into thinking otherwise. As soon as they get to the point they want, they’ll just slaughter your people anyway. Don’t worry too much about that shit, because you won’t be around to see that happen. Consider this a mercy killing.”

Diphelia yelled out “We’ll See about that!!” and raised her hand to attempt to shoot Sukia again, but the Vampiress quickly rushed over and grabbed her arm and pointed it towards Diphelia’s own face.

“Yes, we will. You’re going to do to yourself what you’ve already done to your people. You’re going to die by your own hand!!!” Sukia yelled.

Sukia’s eyes flashed bright red before she used her psychic powers to force Diphelia to aim at her own face. Before Diphelia could understand what was happening, Sukia’s powers had forced her to blow her own head off. The Bloody Siren allowed the headless body of the Oni-Ken soldier to fall to the ground.

“Cowards don’t deserve to die an honorable death.” Sukia said, returning to her normal state, and surveying the scene around her.

Kenta simply sat there on the ground with a look of envy towards Sukia and her powerful vampire abilities. Shirou had managed to pull himself out of the stream, and was soaking wet, yet otherwise unharmed by the attempt on their lives. The stream was now taking on a shade of red due to the blood of the slain archers; some bodies were decapitated, some had their skulls bashed in, and some fell victim to various other attacks by Sukia’s strength of non-human origin.

Kenta grabbed his armor and quickly put it on before saying, “I think we should pick another camp site.”

“Naw, I think we should stick with this one since we’ve already killed the bad guys.” Sukia replied.

“Listen sis, we shouldn’t stay moving, where’s the kid at? Shirou, little guy, don’t you agree with me?”

“Master Kenta, Miss Sukia has a point, we shouldn’t expect anybody else.”

“Some apprentice you are! You’ll be cleaning my boots for the next two weeks over that one!”

“Look, Asshole, you can march if you want to, but I’m ready to relax. Relax as much as a woman with a 500 Million Gold Coin Bounty can, anyway.”

“Alright, fine. We’ll stay here. Sukia you need to…”

“Kenta…I thought we had an agreement: you refrain from the “I need to respect you” speech, and I’ll refrain from biting your ass!”

Later on that night, the small group had all but drifted into slumber. Shirou laid half asleep with his head on Sukia’s lap while she drank vodka out of a bottle of Southern select that she had stolen from the Brevehn tavern, and Kenta polished the blades on his Axe of the Storm between munching on a piece of fish that Shirou had caught before laying down.

“Hey, sis, do you ever think about the guy who turned you into a vamp? I thought he said he was gonna try to marry you?”

“I think about him sometimes. I don’t have any intentions on marrying that creep, but if I ever see him, I’ll thank him for the new powers. Still, I know we’ll run into him sooner or later. He doesn’t strike me as the type to make idle threats.”

“Well I don’t think we have much to worry about, sis. You’ve gained control of your vampire powers and you’re using them pretty well. Plus you’re a Daywalker, so that must mean you’re stronger.”

“Kenta, my beloved big brother, as much as I appreciate the vote of confidence, I doubt it’s that easy. Yeah, I’m a Daywalker, but all that means is I can walk around in daylight and he can’t. At nighttime, I’m no more at an advantage than he is. Plus he’s been a vampire for a longer time, he’s probably got powers I can’t even begin to imagine. I’ve heard of vamps that can transform into monsters with incredible strength, speed and reflexes.”

“Like you don’t have those already?”

“I mean even more so. If he can do all of that, I might not be able to take him. Plus, I have you and the little guy to watch out for. He can use one of you against me, and then what can I do?”

“Sukia…..”

“Kenta? What’s wrong? If this is another one of your drunken jokes, I advise you to say you’re just playing right now!”

Kenta’s expression suddenly went blank and his body seemed to go limp momentarily before suddenly snapping back to with red eyes. Sukia immediately jumped up with her hands on her Thunder and Rain Blades. The abruptly awoken Shirou took a glance at Kenta’s direction to see his master suddenly float up in the air.

“Master Kenta?”

“Kenta!!!!”

The body of Kenta Durahn stopped in mid-air, and looked directly at Sukia and began to speak.

“My bride…..it’s been so long since I’ve seen you last…but I’ve watched over you ever since your rebirth. You’ve pleased me with your growth, and now it’s time for you to join me as my Queen over the Vampire World….of course I expect some…reluctance…so I’ll borrow your brother’s body as a….incentive to consider your decision carefully.”

“You’ll pay for what you’ve done with your life, Vincent!!!! Give me my brother back!!!!”

The possessed Kenta merely smiled and floated over the treetops.

Without a word, Sukia began to give chase to the quickly disappearing Kenta, with Shirou on her heels.

Next Episode: Sukia vs. Kenta: My Brother’s Keeper: The Bloody Siren eventually follows the possessed Kenta to the hideout of Vincent DeMourgio, the Vampire who sired her. When Sukia refuses to marry Vincent, he forces the possessed Kenta to attack his sister, and now Sukia has to find a way to free Kenta from Vincent’s control before he kills her.
