Court of the Leper 

we are all stoned
amazed into faith
rejecting
the daily death

counterfeit ideals
like the plastic gods on
billboards

the quick fix
the hot deal
pay now
die later

but clouds
they don’t
rain pennies
on streets
where beggars
pray

while the
spiritually bereft
raise their glasses
in glee

in the court of
the leper
a smile is
worth gold

and belief is
a matter of
perception.
