Thereafter I explained in great detail about the happenings of the night.

“What about Shu?” she queried.

I could feel the curves of my mouth pull downwards into a frown. We were over, that was a fact, but did it mean that our friendship was dead as well? We had known each other since elementary school; friendship isn’t as fleeting as love.

“Can you bear to lose the bond you’ve built up over so many years?” Mariel asked knowing what was going through my head.

Opening our shared closet I took out an oversized T-shirt and pulled it over my head, pondering over Mariel’s question.

“You’re right. I don’t hate him to the point where we can’t be friends.” I climbed up the ladder of the double-decker bed and lay beside Mariel, stomach facing down. I smiled to myself, content that there was some form of closure on our break-up.

“Thought so.” She flashed me her pearly whites, happy for my sake.

“Whilst we’re on the subject,” she began, “I never did like him. He was always so...so...” she paused to look for the right words, “Obnoxious and chauvinistic and frivolous and-and-“she continued to list Shu’s faults. Now I am not saying this because I got dumped, but she was right on the dot. He was always a boy of many flaws I reminisced.

Deciding to end Mariel’s rant I mockingly told her: “I understand mother-in law; my next boyfriend has to meet your standards right?”

For that, I earned a relentless onslaught of tickling.

“AHAHAHHA...no! Stop please!” I half yelled half laughed.
A few minutes later a very audible “thump” reverberated across the floor. We ran out to the veranda, already knowing what and who had caused the sound.

“Can’t you girls keep quiet?” the boy shouted waving a broom stick at us.

Holding onto the railings we looked downwards to see our neighbour and dorm mate, Kenn.

“Look who’s talking? You’re one waking half the neighbourhood up. If you aren’t careful the dorm manager will kick you out.” I stuck my tongue out at him knowing just how to push his buttons.
Then an idea popped into my head.

“Hey Mariel lets...”I whispered the rest into her ear.

“On 1, 2, 3, Kaaaa....” we both made a gargling noise in the back of our throats, imitating a spitting action.

“GYahhh.” His mop of brown hair disappeared back into his own room, obviously terrified that we would go through with it; the poor sod.

Once he had retreated a bubble of uncontrolled laughter filled the air causing Kenn to re-emerge from his room.
“Hey, I er heard,” he scratched the back of his head, obviously feeling a tad bit awkward for disturbing our laughing session, “about you and Shu.” He finished solemnly.

“So? Are you trying to console me?” I said resting my chin on the back of my hand.

“Don’t be an idiot!” He said getting a little riled up. “I-I just wanted to make fun of ya. I mean, getting dumped by someone like Shu? It’s like you’ve hit an all new low.”

Upon hearing that, all playfulness I had before evaporated, in its place an annoyance that made my veins pop. I went back inside and took an empty cola can from the thrash.
Aim, throw, and touchdown! The score is 1:0.

“MICHI AKIHIRO GET YOUR ASS BACK OUT HERE!!!!!!” The outraged scream echoed throughout the building, leaving me feeling triumphant.
