SLEEPING LATE (489 wrd entry)

Getting out of bed at six , seven or even eight in the morning may be normal to some, but me? I sleep until three in the afternoon. I shut my phone off so that I can sleep all day, and that does not always mean a peaceful days sleep. I live on a street full of families with children and dogs. Have you ever tried to lay down for a nap in the city? Garbage trucks, lawn mowers, construction noise, kids screaming, and horns blowing out of taxi cabs and school buses all make it near impossible. I have learned that sleeping with ear plugs helps muffle the noise but still when your thinking about all the world and what it is doing, it only becomes harder to rest you mind.

I work from seven at night to seven in the morning. I arrive home at seven thirty and by the time I wind down enough, it will be eight thirty in the morning. I fall asleep before nine thirty if all the racket and noise in and around my home permits. The sun seeps through the windows keeping my room bright so hiding my head under the covers, I pray that no one rings my door bell or breaks a glass in the kitchen.

If I need to wake up because nature calls, I am usually in big trouble. That happens to me at noon or at one and I can never fall back to sleep once I am awake. So at times I am lucky to have slept three to four hours before I have to go back to work and begin the twelve hour over night shift yet again.

If I am lucky, we have a rainy day where it has dimmed my room, and sheltered all the children and their dogs, and I sleep to three in the afternoon. Once I am awake at three, I have to start the coffee, get in the shower, cook super for my child, and spend as much time with him as possible. Than by five thirty I leave the house and race to work. I arrive at six if all goes as planned, and sit in my car until it is time to begin my shift. It is the only time I have to my self.

The very worst thing about sleeping late in the afternoon, is that other people do not understand. I get out of work at seven in the morning and they think because they can not get a hold of me by noon, that I am being lazy. They even say things like, “Oh my god, are you seriously still sleeping in this beautiful weather?”

I have never brought my self to do it yet, but I am going to call them at three in the morning and say, “Oh my god are you seriously sleeping on such a wonderful night?”
