coming home from watching a soccer game
Creatures of the night,
Accustomed to the dark,
Adorning my streets
With their shapes and sizes.

Am drawn, am enticed,
So pleasing to my eyes.
Peaches and apples
How succulent they’d taste.

From my door step to wine bar
They come in colors.
Calling with their eyes and smiling at me,
Hoping am drunk and out of my mind.

Seeing only lush and hedonism,
My wallet so big and irrelevant.
Down your drain I’ll throw it with ease,
In anticipation of urges fulfilled

Not giving a thought, just giving to lust.
My hungry self in a rush to feast.
I’ll probably wake up as clear as spring.
My head aching, my body confused

Wondering and thinking where the hell I am.
This once magnificent creature, not so pleasing now.
Two months salary literally down the drain.
One night of pleasure for two months of misery.

So today I thank God,
Because am sober, broke and on my way home
Creatures of the night adorning my streets,
Right now I’m contempt with looking from here.
