A poem about a mother and daughter, once estranged now reconnected
The brown eyed girl
Sits down in the chair
with the box in her lap
at which she stares

Does she dare to open it
and see whats inside?
It came from her mom
who's been gone for a while

She fiddles with the latch
while trying to decide
She's been mad at her mom
for quite sometime

Finally, she lifts the lid
and to her surprise
There's a piece of paper,
and an envelope inside

She reads the page, it's a story
her mother had written
It's about her, she just knows it
now shes willing to listen

She opens the envelope
there's a letter enclosed
She takes a deep breath
and whispers, "here we go"

It's your mother and I've loved you
since the first day we met
There are things that I've done
you will never forget

It's killed me each day
since you left with your dad
I know the things he told you
really made you mad

But baby, please believe
I did the best I could
I hope someday you'll forgive me
I really wish you would

The girl, now a teenager
Began to think about
The mother she remembered
and she began to doubt

The decision she made
to never love her again
there was a point in time
when her mom was her best friend

She put the letter and story
back into the box
they brought up old memories
she was trying to block

She picked up the phone
and dialed her moms number
she said, "Mom, I forgive you,
and yes I still love you.

Her mother heard this
and began to cry
she said each day without you
was like dying inside

Thank you for calling
I hope we can be friends
I know it will take time,
we have broken hearts to mend
