A poem about struggling to survive depression
Blinded by splintered shards
Of a past so long before
It had overcome me like a deadly weapon
As I was grasping for the shore

Threatening to pull me under
A darkened sea of dispair
Numbing every joy within me
As if it wasn't there

Something like a beckoning call
Rang inside my head
Saying that if I gave up then
It would follow me long after I'm dead

Survival kicked in and instinct took over
I clawed my way out of the void
Opened my eyes and breathed for my life
I refused to be destroyed
