Lucky Louie's Unlucky Day

"Hello, Lucky Louie's Lucky Lousy Lounge, Lucky Louie speaking."

"Hey Louie, Marge here.  I won't be in today.  I found out that the beer I had last night wasn't beer.  I'm on the way to the hospital now."

"What cha mean it wasn't beer?"

"I found out that the whole barrel was contaminated with Bad Barley and cleansing iodine.  Everyone from the party on the way to the hospital.  Hank was the first one there, that's when the rest of us found out when we got a call telling to get there right away."

         "Ye, gonna be K?"

"I hope so.  Call ya after I see the doc and find out how bad I am."

"K, take ye self.  I'll try ta get hold of Tina ta cover ye."

         "OK, talk to you later."

Slamming down the receiver, Lucky Louie yelled, "If that don't beat all.  Slimy Sam botched the job." Growling at himself, "I guess I need to take care of that pesty dame myself and now Sam also.  No one botches a job I hire them for without retaliation.

"First take care of Slimy Sam.  Hmmmm, ahh, yes, since he loves slime, cement galoshes and the slime pond in his back twenty.  What a fitting end to the Slime Man.

Reaching for the phone, Louie paused for just a moment.  At that time there were several off-duty copper's in having a drink.  Eventhough alcohol was against the law.  Speakeasies were numerous but seldom patronized by the police.  Those that did took a big chance of being caught, fired and put in the slammer.

"Better wait until I close up ta get hold of Janx and Bubba.", Louie said to himself.

"Ah, finally the last one out."  Reaching under the counter and pulling out the phone and note pad.  "Operator I need the Buzzard Motel on S Madison."

         "One moment sir...go ahead."

         "Buzzard Motel."

         "Yeah, get me room 13."

"Sir, we only have 12 rooms."

         "Dead Beat."

         "Yes, sir patching you through."

"Janx, go and get Bubba out from under what ever broad he's under and get here immediately."

         "K, boss."

Half hour later there was a knock on the Lounges back door.  "Who's dare?"

"It's me us boss.  Let us in we're git'en code out here."

         "Keep yer britches on."

As Louie opened the door, a giant of a man literally squeezed himself in.  "Come on Janx, git yer big butt in dare"  A snivelly voice piped in.  As soon as Janx cleared the door.  Bubba popped in, a small wirery of a man with his nose sitting at an odd angle.  Probably from being hit way too many times.

"K, boys, got a couple of jobs that needs done.  First, we're gonna take care of Slimy Sam."

"A, boss, on de way over.  We's saw da coppers outside 'is place an haul'in out a body."

At that moment Louie's private line rang.  "Hello, who dis?"

"Louie, I told you not to try anything against Marge.  I made sure there were plenty of paper showing your involvement in several capers."

"Randy...how could you.  I'm yer brodder.  Ya knew Marge was me girl."

"Louie not everyone thinks you're the best there is.  I guess she found some thun better."

"I's also know she's bin taken money from me.  I's seen it meself.  Ya know I cain't let that go."

"That's how stupid you are Louie.  You know who does your books?"

         "What, you set er up?"

"Well not exactly.  Someone wants to talk to you."

         "Hey Louie, how ya do'in?"

         "Marge??  That you?"

Ya, it's me.  We're gonna enjoy your money, while yer locked up.  By the way, de police should be pull'in up any time now."

         "What?"

"A, boss." a deep throated voice called out.

"Janx, cain't ya see I'ms on de phone."

"But boss, a bunch of dem coppers jus pulled up outside."

Leaning back Louie could just make out the police getting ready to barge in.  "God damn it Marge!!  What'd I ever do ta ya that make ya turn on me like dis?"

"Well, Louie , for one thing my name is Karen Dwight.  You should remember my family?  You killed them thirteen years ago.  It took this long to find you.  I was dating Randy long before I met you."

"What??  The two of ya did this to me?"

"Louie, ma kep tellling you to change your ways or they'll catchn-up to you."

"When I get out of this.  I'll get the both of you with interest."

"A, Louie first take a real good look outside."

Putting down the phone, Louie walked over to the window.  "Bubba kill the lights."

         "But boss."

         "Do it."

"K boss"  Then the room fell into darkness.

Peering out the front window, two figures walked out of the diner across the street.  Watching carefully, Louie noticed that it was a man and a woman.  Slowly they moved through the police cars.  Then he noticed that they were arm-in-arm.  They kept walking until they were with-in ten feet of the window.

Louie's jaw just dropped.  Not only were the two Randy and Karen, but they were wearing the badges of the DOI.

"Hey boss, when did your brodda become a copper?", Bubba piped up.

Fuming Louie ran to the door, ripped it open, almost taking it off it hinges.  Ran outside, madder than a hatter.  Ran right up to Randy, chest heaving with his fury.  First balling up his fists to hit him, then opening his mouth to yell.  But couldn't figure out what to do.  Turning to the right and then left, stomping his feet, yelling at the top of his voice in his head for nothing would come out.

Acting like a little kid when he don't get his way.  Randy and Karen just stood there smiling at each other at the antics that Louie was putting on.

"Hey Louie, you better settle down before you have a stroke." Randy said half-heartedly.

Louie stopped pacing, came right in front of Karen and yelled, "Ya betta tell your beau ta shud up."

"Well, Louie, I wish he was my beau.  But he is my husband."

"What?  Why you...How could you...You BITCH."

Louie balled up his right hand, turned to walk away.  Then quickly turning around to hit her.  Gun shots rang out.  The last look on Louie's face before he fell over was of "WHY".

Randy turned to Karen and asked her, "Where should we go for our Huney Moon?"

"We can go anywhere Louie's paying for it."

With one more look at Louie, they turned and walked away smiling, arm-in-arm with her head resting on his shoulder.
