ethnic group identification pulling us apart.
I'm an American are you?
Into the melting pot called America.
We throw off the old, to become something new.
People gathering to assimilate, different yet the same.
We're all here to be free and equal, able to excel.

In today's world we no longer wish to assimilate.
We want what we want but still we hang on to the old.
We are no longer just Americans.
I'm an Anglo American, you're an African American, and you,
are a Mexican American and still you're a Chinese American.
We're now separate groups, fighting for position, no longer equal.

We have lost our way, yes lost our pride.
Stuck in dying cultures, can't we see?
Instead of pulling together we're pulling one another apart.
Why did we come to this place called America?
Have we forgotten?
