A dreamed experience
I stand at the edge of the sea, eyes closed, braced against the chill
A breeze mists my face and blows my hair from my face and shoulders
My nightdress clings to my body and dances around my legs
My toes sink into the wet sand as salty air stings my lungs
I breathe.

The crashing waves thunder, foam swirls around my feet then recedes
The sea calls to me; I open my eyes and seek out the moon
Her silvery glow lies upon the surface like shining gems
The water undulates and heaves like a great beast’s gasping breath
I am enchanted.

Slicing through the waves like a snake, a thin dark line approaches
Behold a bridge, sodden planks of wood, it anchors at my feet
Stretching out, the other end disappears on the horizon
It beckons me, tugs at my heart, what can I do but follow
I take the first step.

I am alone in this vast ocean, the world has disappeared
The abyss beneath my feet, breeze becomes wind, mists become rain.
Swells of water rise and fall around me, the sea rushes in
My feet moving just below the surface, I walk on water
I am mesmerized.

Colossal Gods rise from the depths; thrash and swarm, they gather near
Writhing black shapes far and wide, each one distinct and different
The greatest of these breaks the surface and towers over me
Ebony skin glistens in the moonlight, I reach out and touch
I am insignificant.

The Gods grow still, bowed before me in reverence, my guardians
The sea heaves in exultation, delivers me to the moon.
The beast heaves its final breath and settles to a gentle sway.
With outstretched arms, I embrace the moon, the Gods beneath my feet.
I am at peace.
