A darker love story.
It's a case of love and death. Or maybe a case of death and love? Life and death. Death and life? Who knows, you can decide.

Nicholas wasn't a very happy 17 year old boy. He was always so down, so gloomy. His eyes had bags under them from stress and general lack of sleep. His clothing was all dark to represent his emotions. His hair was pure black which just pointed out his pale skin. And he always seemed to carry around a journal with songs he wrote in them. Nicholas hated his life, he hated his drunken father, he hated that his mom died when he was younger, he hated his back-stabbing friends who left him for "cooler" friends, he hated all the other kids at his school for treating him like a freak. He just hated it all. So every night he went to the old, decrepid house at the end of town. It was all alone, no house close to it. He went there to think. To write. To just be alone. It was his seclusion. As he wrote in his journal this night, he heard something from down the hall he was sitting in. "Is anyone there?" he asked, aiming his flash light down the hall. After a minute he figured it was nothing and went back to writing.

"What're you writing?" A girl asked him, standing right at his side. He instantly jumped up from the ground, startled by her.

"Where did you- how did you- where- what" Nicholas was trying to get a single sentence out of his shock.

"Where did I come from?" The girl asked him. Nicholas took a couple of breaths before saying yes. "I came from over there." The girl said, pointing at a door in the hallway. Nicholas looked at the white-haired girl and noticed something odd.

"Ummm, are you sick or something?" He asked her.

"No, not anymore, why?" She asked him.

"Well, you're skins really, really pale. And no offense, but skin as pale as your's usually meen you're sick." Nichalos answered. She didn't show any reaction to Nicholas's statement and continued to point at the door. Since she wouldn't stop pointing, Nicholas decided to go inside. What he saw was something out of a ghost movie. There was an old, dust covered operating table, rusty operation knives, and a picture. Nicholas picked the old photo up and looked at it. What he saw was just a little over the creepy train. It was a picture of the girl standing right next to him. But the date said, "1886?" Nicholas asked in disbelief.

"Yes." The pale girl said. "That's the year when I came to this place. That's the year when I died." Nicholas dropped the photo when she said that. His head was full of fear now. All it said to him was 'she's dead so run! RUN YOU MORON, RUN!!'. But against his own judgement, and against his own fear, he did what most people wouldn't do in his situation. He stayed there and asked her,

  "How... How did you... Die?"

The girl looked a little shocked at him still staying there, even after what she had told him. "My mother brought me hear when I was 17. I was very sick and she was only trying to help me. She left me in the care of what we were told was the most skilled doctor in the county. But, after his operation, i died on that table." She pointed at the operating table. Remembering her death brought a small tear to her eye. Then she asked Nicholas, "Why are you still here?"

"What do you meen?" Nicholas asked, asking himself the same question.

"Most people would have run when I told them I'm dead. You're still here. Why?' She asked.

"Well, when I think about it. Why not stay. I don't have much to run back to." He said.

"Why do you say that?" The girl asked.

Nicholas took a deep breath and began. "My mom died when I was young, my dad's a jackass drunk, my friends left me to hang with the 'cooler' kids, and basically everyone treats me like the frickin' plague. So, why wouldn't I stay with you?" Nicholas said. "You're the nicest person I've met so far."

The girl blushed a little. Then she told him, "You're the nicest person I've met so far too." She glanced at his journal again. "Can I see what you were writing?" Nicholas handed the journal to her. Then he noticed the time.

"Listen, I have to go." He said, beginning to walk out.

"What about your journal?" The girl asked.

"I'll be back tomorrow so we can hang out some more." He said to her, smiling. "I'm Nicholas by the way."

The girl smiled back at him. "I'm Elisa."

A few weeks later and the two were happy to see eachother each night. Then one night Nicholas asked,

"We can't go out, can we? You know, date. Because you're dead and I'm alive."

Elisa frowned. "I suppose we can't." Then she looked at him. "Unless you..."

  "Unless I what?"

"Unless you.... Die... Then we can...." She thought about what she just said. "No, forget I said that!"

Too late, Nicholas already began thinking. "Well, honestly, I don't have much to live for." Then he looked at the lake outside. The moon was beautifull. He got up from where he was sitting and began to walk towards it. Elisa grabbed him.

"Nicholas, wait! I don't want you to do this! Please--"

"Elisa." Nicholas said, stopping her. "You're the most gorgeous girl I've ever met. You're the nicest, the prettiest, and.... I want to spend eternity with you because..." A small tear fell out his eye. "Because I love you."

Elisa looked at him, she felt it in her non-beating heart that she wasn't going to be able to change his mind, so she let him go. And he continued to walk over to the lake. As he stepped into it's dark, icy water he walked deeper into it until finally, he went under. And stayed under until the bubbles stopped... And he was dead. "Nicholas." Elisa mourned, a tear coming out of her eye. She began to cry until she saw movement in the water. Then, out of the cold depths of death, Nicholas remurged. He was dead now, with pale skin and white hair like Elisa. But he was happy. He hugged Elisa and told her, smiling,

  "I love you Elisa."

She shedded a few tears and said back to him, "I love you too, Nicholas."
