Steve & Kari try to enjoy a night on the town but it proves to be very difficult
Her porcelain skin against the night sky makes her look fragile. “She’s beautiful” Steve thinks, feeling like the luckiest man to have a woman like Kari in his life “I never want to let her go”. Steve looks at Kari and sees she is tired. Crowds of people are on the streets, pushing and shoving to get by. Steve and Kari walk past a coffee shop, decide to go in and rest for a minute. They order two hot chocolates, sit and drink slowly, enjoying each others company. Once finished, Steve can see some color return to Kari’s cheeks. Throwing their cups out at the door, Steven whispers in Kari’s ear “are you ready?” She smiles up at him and nods. Her eyelashes are so long, her eyes are a brilliant green, and Steve looses himself in her gaze. Kari reaches up on her tiptoes and kisses his nose snapping him out of it. As they open the door more people have filled the streets, they’re running rampant. Pushing through the crowds they make it, Kari breathes a sigh of relief; Steve knows she can relax for a bit. They hold each other and talk as if they were the only ones around. Steve, curious as to what other people are doing, looks around. That’s when he hears the first bang. He tightens his grip on Kari. Another bang rings out; Steve wonders “how many more they’ll hear?” Kari’s breathing accelerates; Steven can feel it against his neck. The screams came from everywhere, surrounding them. Steve could feel the tremor under his feet as people run around. He looks at Kari and in the moment he is lost in her gaze again. Unaware of what is happening around them he smiles and bends to give Kari a lingering kiss. Hoping she can sense the promise made in the kiss he pulls back, and brushes a loose strand of hair off her face. He rests his forehead against Kari’s and whispers “Happy New Year Kari.” Steven can hear the smile in Kari’s voice as she says “Happy New Year Steve.”
