this poem concerns the bigotry sometimes encountered by the working mother.
Woman’s World

Sitting in this stuffy office
Waiting for your interview
Secretary sniffing
Looking down her nose at you
The filling out of endless forms
Name, address and more
Writing…In your own words
What your qualifications are
Why I’m a fully licensed chauffer
I drive the kids back and forth to school
I’m a recognised politician
In my house they abide by every rule
I hold a degree in nursing
I heal my children when their sick
I apply cold compresses
To swollen ankles when there kicked
I’m a celebrated chef
Sausage, chips and beans
All are in agreement
I’m the master of cuisine
As I sit here and reflect
Of all I’m capable of
I will stay where I’m appreciated
You can stick your bloody job!
