child and dandelion

You picked for me a "dandeline."
A girl of five, a boy of seven.
I was yours and you were mine.

Then again when you turned nine
Racing ahead through tall grasses
You picked for me a "dandeline."

And kissed me for the first time.
Standing in a field of yellow
I was yours and you were mine.

As grown adults we'd dance and dine.
Memories of childhood still clear in my mind.
You picked for me a "dandeline."

But, she was there all the time,
To steal you away, not even consider-
I was yours and you were mine.

My heart withered like a flower on the vine.
Until, today, when I opened to find-
You picked for me a "dandeline."
I was yours and you were mine.

Note: The correct spelling is dandelion. However, "dandeline" is what we called them when we were kids.
