The Hangman's noose

The pendulem swings with a timeless motion
the 13 taught layers give no notion
that the hangman's noose may play a reaper
a coffin made from wooden gallows
a trapdoor laid and levered trigger
a countdown made then no more swallows
The body jerks when rope grabs hold
over throat and windpipe
soon jerking stops and rope grows bold
to show its victim hung up tight
the audience watches as the body sways
no tears shed and no heads turn
as the executioner hangs.
