The grass is always greener, or in this case, the water is always wetter on the other side
tiny droplets of water
try to find their way to sea
a glimpse of it can be caught
when evaporating, condensing, and precipitating
the ocean entices, yet teases them
as they begin new journeys away from it

tiny droplets of water
travel along streams and rivers
trickle upon the tops of trees
infiltrate and percolate through the soil
roll down the tips of tongues
tap upon tin roofs creating songs of a storm
transport nutrients throughout the bodies of animals and men
nurture seedlings to grow big and strong
tickling their toes once they do
but still want what they can’t have
and targets one destination the entire way

meanwhile
two thirds of the total is tormented
drifting about the ocean
sinking to the bottom and turning over to the top
floating to the sky to fall right back down
repeating the cycle again and again
wanting to be anywhere but there
to experience more of what the world has to offer
to escape the torturing boredom of stagnancy

occasionally
an exchange from one to the other is granted
tides rush in waves to seep into the sands
water extracted from earth falls onto the sea
and happiness is bestowed upon them
for a while…
