This poem is about my frustration with modern day society and the order of our priorities.
Checking Out!

Let me out, Let me out, Before I scream and shout!
I didn't sign in but now I'm checking out.

To this crazy plan, I did not agree,
So I'm passively resisting in the hope that you will see.

Wild horses and a zillion dollars couldn't make me stay.
I know you don't understand but can't you see my edges fray.

The wisdom of the ages has been lost while we sleep.
Now the rich get richer and for the poor I weep.

Yes, and I'm tired of all our crazy rules,
And a world that's run by money hungry fools.

Like an alien from another place, I struggle to understand,
The order of our priorities and where our loyalties stand.

Plasma TV's and Christmas presents are the order of the day,
While the starving, lost and poor continue to stay that way.

What will our future generations think of all this muck.
I have no other choice but to get myself unstuck.

So I'm going to sell my house and buy a block of land.
On it I'll put a caravan and that's where I'll take my stand.

By saying no to consumerism and it's tainted silver lining.
On home grown produce this little black duck will be dining.

From red tape and the grid, myself I wish to untie,
While from bloodied wars, the lost on their death beds lie.

So let me out, let me out, this girl is checking out,
As where we're headed as a people leaves me in grave doubt.
