A poem using the metaphor of burying to describe a troubled relationship.
BURIED

Come

Wipe the dust from your mouth

And speak again

Rusty, misused

Scarred

Long out of print

Your life lies in pieces

While you lie in despair

As I wonder where

We should go next

I'll dig you up myself

If I have to

My hands might bleed

But at least you'll breathe

My knees might break

I might fall to the ground

But at least you'll be there

To pull me up again

I'm calling on you

I'm giving you the strength

You'll need to hold me

I'm giving you a reason

To let me lean on your shoulder

Sleep

So I can hear you breathing

And know you're alive

Another night

Another life

Things might have been different

And you might have stayed the same

Never withered away

Oh, how I hate this cycle

Like the seasons, no matter

How warm it might feel

Winter is only days away

So swim

While you still have the chance

Because tomorrow

You could be buried again

Alive

Beneath the cold, hard dirt

Packed down

By my unwilling hands

This soil stains my skin

With a guilt

That I can never wash away

The handle of this shovel

Digs splinters ito my palms

But I deserve this

So I say nothing

And start again

Because tomorrow

You might be buried again

I'm so sorry.
