Flash fiction entry
Father Jonathan Banes knelt in supplication before the crucifix he kept in his bedchamber.  A priest for the Catholic Church for 18 years, he ended every day with his cross in his hand and prayer in his heart.  The simple threadbare robes hung off of him like a shroud as a candle provided the only illumination in the room.  As he looked at the Jesus figurine on the cross it appeared to be staring back with sad shrouded eyes.  He loved the church and his congregation and he adored God.  Father Banes could recite any passage in the bible in a moment’s notice.

However, tonight his sin eats at his heart and his faith.  The little boys he had touched were so innocent and young and unspoiled.  He didn’t mean them harm and only wanted to share his love with them.  He prayed to God for forgiveness and strength to resist the urge further.  He didn’t want to bring harm to anyone.  No one knew as far as he could tell but he felt dread at the inevitable outcome.

He was on his knees head pressed to the floor praying when a bright light filled his bedchamber.  Looking up he saw it was coming from his mirror.  As he approached a beautiful woman stared back at him.  She had a glowing aura and translucent wings and a smile that warmed his heart.  He knew this was an angel sent from god to give him redemption and peace.  As he looked though her aura darkened to blackest night while she sprouted reddish horns from her forehead and her smile turned to a malevolent sneer.  The last thing he saw were her glowing eyes and then darkness.

A nun found him hour’s later face up with empty eye sockets staring back.
