A shivering tail of Daniel's note.
Time to wake up. Daniel's eyes shot open as the sinister voice uttered the words in the back of his mind. Regardless of the number of times he's heard the voice, it never ceased to horrify him. That voice... That deep, dark, ominous voice. It had unfortunately become familiar to him
He glanced at the clock. The red numbers blinked: 3:00 am. The exact hour of the night that Daniel would always wake up to. They always woke him at 3:00 am. As soon as he read the numbers on the digital clock, his eyelids shut again.
Open them! The voice spoke louder this time. Daniel shivered under the covers and slowly opened his eyes, slightly relieved when no horrifying images were shown. He warily reached over to grab his bifocals and carefully adjusted them on to his face. He took a quick sweep of the room, still hiding in the sanctuary of under his covers. Everything was just how he had left it. Minus the small slip of paper lying on his desk chair.
Daniel had no intention of reading the cryptic message, but his legs somehow carried him there. They're getting smarter, he thought to himself. Unwillingly, his hand reached down to pick up the note and carry it close to his face in order to read it.

WE'RE HUNGRY.

That was all the note had. It was all that needed to be said. They wanted fear. Daniel didn't move. He was absolutely frozen. With fear. Though, he tried to let it go; becoming fearful would be the same as giving in. He adjusted his thick-rimmed glasses and slowly spun around to face his bed once more. Though his bed was occupied now.
At the horrifying, gruesome sight, Daniel's eyes grew to wide, round saucers. A terrifying, bone-chilling screech finally escaped his lips. He then dropped to the floor and clutched both sides of his head, rocking back and forth, letting out hysterical sobs. He then pulled off his glasses and smashed them on the ground.
As soon as Daniel was able to compose himself, he fumbled for the phone in the kitchen and dialed 911. When they answered, he frantically called for the police to arrive. The voice that answered was not very assuring.
"This is just one of many" said the voice that Daniel heard every morning. Daniel was unable to say another word. He dropped the phone and scurried back to his room and flipped on all the light switches, though the lights stayed off. He stood in the middle of his room, panicked.
Slam! Daniel spun around to find his bedroom door closed behind him. Then, the digital clock struck 4:00 am. The lights flickered on, and the familiar sound of police sirens rang outside his window.
Daniel dashed outside and was thrown into another fit of madness as he desperately tried to explain what had occurred. The police then entered his home. They found his dead wife lying in bed. With all of her vital organs removed.
I remember his screams and sobs. How musical they sounded. Absolutely delightful... His wife's organs tasted quite exquisite... We all enjoyed them piece by piece. Although, ripping her open wasn't easy. She did not want to cooperate. Oh, how she screamed Daniel's name... Though he never saved her. We told him we were hungry, but unfortunately, humans are not fast enough. They are idiotic, getting caught up in the foolishness of love. Though, they are exceptionally delicious.
Today is the day Daniel moves out. He opens his closet door carefully, his fear bubbling in his stomach. I can smell it. He stares at me, and I stare at him with glowing red eyes. Then, I give him a big, toothy grin.
