flash fiction contest entry
“Waitress!” the overly large trucker bellowed from across the room like a horse braying in its apprehensive tone to be released to graze upon green pastures. The smoky diner filled with poisonous fumes, slowly killing those whom refuse to leave. Slamming his spoon he beckons again in the same raspy voice as before. My fatigue getting the best of me, I keep my cool and go to refill his coffee cup. Oh how I wished to fling the scolding hot glass jar at him from behind the counter and watch him writhe in pain as the molten liquid entices his flesh to boil and simmer. His basket of free break sticks almost empty again, yet another melodious call would be following soon. These are to be my num-chucks in the epic battle against the ghastly tyrant striking him violently, crumbs flying in all directions. “WAITRESS!!” that tone so aggravating. This man whom refuses to leave after three meals and 6 hours of continuous coffee refills to slide down his throat, how is this man still eating? Why will he not implode from lack of space? “WATIRESS!!!” Something inside me snaps. The feeling of a leash breaking under pressure releasing a bloodthirsty hound upon his target flashes through my head. Rushing over to his side quickly I glare directly through him with such furry, It was likely that his soul would burst into flames. Gripping his shirt with my fist the stripes on his collar flowing into my fist, I slam the check on the table with overwhelming noise. “Have a nice day,” I murmured through my clenched teeth.
