The awakening

In the short story “ The Company of Wolves” by Angela Carter, the male character plays an important role in female sexuality; temptation in the transition of becoming a young woman. In this short story by Carter we have a young girl who is becoming a young woman. Carter describes this transition writing “her cheeks are an emblematic scarlet and white and she has just started her woman's bleeding” (Carter,The Company of Wolves). The colors scarlet and white describes this young girl's purity and the scarlet color representing her sexual awakening. As her sexual desires awake, and the temptation in her life begins to rise up. This is where the wolf changes her life.
The young wolf mentioned in the story represents temptation in this young inexperienced(yet wanting to experience) girl. The two characters meet paths and despite the fact that this teenage girl doesn’t know this young man she begins to trust him and Carter shows the young girl's trust, “ soon they were laughing and joking like old friends. When he offer[s] to carry her basket, she [gives] it to him although her knife [is] in it because he [tells] her his rifle would protect them” (Carter, The Company of Wolves). In a young person's life we are taught to not trust strangers, yet this teenage girl trusts this young man giving him the one thing that could keep her safe, her knife. This young girl wants to experience the sexual aspect of life. The wolf meaning her temptation is out to get her, and she wants that.
Like Adam and Eve, this girl falls into temptation, but who's fault is it?Is it the wolf's fault for offering it or the girl's fault for accepting the bet that leads to the fall? Clearly this girl wants something to happen because she agrees with the offer he proposes to her. “Is it a bet? He ask[s] her. Shall we make a game of it? What would you give me if I get to your grandmother's house before you? What would you like? She ask[s]' disingenuously. A kiss” (Carter, The Company of Wolves). The wolf sets the trap for the girl to fall into it is her decision to either take it or leave it, but she plays along by asking the question “what would you like”. This girl knows what the wolf wants. A synonym to the word disingenuous is crooked, is dishonest this is where this young girl decides to fall into what the wolf has to offer. At this point this teenage girl decides to give in temptation, and starts teasing the wolf to make him fall for what she has to offer him. This marks the turning point of this short story.
The young girl knows what she wants and she knows how to get it. She wants a new experience. She wants to explore an area in her life which was recently discover, her sexuality. This young girl starts the teasing agreeing by with the bet, but this time she takes the teasing to the next level. She starts to undress herself knowing that this young wolf would not be able to control himself after this, he would lose notion of what is happening around him. This inexperienced young girl would be the fall of this young wolf, but who is it to blame? This young girl or the wolf who woke up this young girl's sexual desire?
Just like Eve makes Adam fall to temptation and changes his life, this young girl changes this wolfs life forever, but in the same sense this wolf wakes up this girl's desire by tempting her first. It is like a man or woman who has is really hungry and someone offers them a piece of steak, of course they would take it. With that analogy been said this young wolf offered this young girl something she had been “craving” for. It is ironic that this girl is the one being tempted in the beginning of this short story but once her sexual desires wake up she is the one doing all the tempting. She used her body and her flirtatious naturalism to make this young wolf fall. Be careful on what you wish for, the wolf wished for the girl to fall in his trap, it all concluded to him falling in her trap and keeping a curse for the rest of his life.
