Breaking Free (A Poem for Palestine)

Stacked over one another
Like random files with no significance
Thrown in a room or even a junk yard
Featureless faces over them hover
I gaze…
My eyes, refusing to wander, are locked on that face
Sharp yet teary raging eyes
A hand reaching for the nothing
Loud yet suffocated cries
I could smell the scent of fear
And a strong wrecking sound I could hear
The stack is growing it seems
Shattered lives
Fading dreams
Arms looking for bodies
And bodies looking for arms
The space seemed limited
What’s that over there?
A fence, a wall
Sprayed with the color red
A floor dyed with the color of death
A fading pulse
A fading heartbeat
No more rhythm, nor rhyme
No more music, no more joy. No words
Can describe this
But we’ll fight for the lost lives
We’ll resist and I…insist
On telling the world with these words of mine
That this is not life
This…is a prison and we are going to break free
